Helpful Information on ACD
An ACD, or Adjournment in Contemplation of Dismissal, is an option that may be offered to a defendant who has been charged with a minor offense in the State of New York. States other than New York offer similar programs such as pretrial diversion, deferred prosecution and court supervision.
The general premise with all such programs is essentially the same - the case is usually adjourned for a period of six months (sometimes a year) after which time the case will be dismissed as long as the defendant has not gotten arrested again. An ACD is not a form of probation or a conviction. However, the court can place certain conditions on the adjournment such as the payment of restitution or require that the defendant perform community service.
An ACD is also not an admission of guilt or assertion of innocence. It is a routine form of dismissal for minor offenses that operates to restore the defendant to the position that he/she enjoyed prior to the arrest. After dismissal, the offense is no longer on the defendant's record and can even be expunged from law enforcement records by following the proper procedure in that particular state.

How do I issue a statement to a domestic dispute police complaint, in which I received an ACD, and the case was dismissed in December 2009, for being very silly.
Honestly, looking at the complaints (by my sisters), they made false allegations to the police, and I want to have my statement on file, so that it doesn't affect my employability -incase a private investigator decides to do a background search.
However, I would like to do this without an a police/DA investigation that could affect my sisters.

On April 28 2009 I was arrested for stealing makeup from K Mart, and spent the night in jail. I was given an ACD in the morning with the condition of a shoplifting course and 25 hours of community service, to be completed by May 29. I have not completed either of these things because of various complications that have arisen, and yesterday I receieved a summons to court on October 15th. Now I am freaking out. Please tell me what to do and what you think will happen. I am terrified of going to jail. Thank you.

At the bottom of article "After dismissal, the offense is no longer on the defendant's record and can..."

I am in NY/NYC. I have an ACD completed now records are sealed and I want to know where to turn to perform "proper procedure", as mentioned above, since this is darn hard to find on Google.

Hey. I live in Buffalo, New York. I recieved an ACD today and a couple days before my sentenceing today, i was pulled over and given a ticket for expired inspection and a distorded windsheld. I was wondering if you can tell me if i'm going to get in trouble for receiveing traffic tickets because i have an ACD.

I want to thank you for the stand you take for the victims that can't speak for themselves. I was watching Dr. Phil today on the DUI problem. I did send mail, to my senators and my govenor. Our laws have to be changed, and we all must be responsible for our actions.I once worked at a elementary school before I had to retire for health reasons. It breaks my heart, that our children today, do not have the role models they deserve.Parents just don't want to parent anymore, they want to be their children's friend, the kids have friends they need caring parents. Thank you for the role model you are, I'm sure you have made a diference in many lives.

My son is in jail for shoplifting here in Smyrna, Ga. his bond was reduced to 1000.00 however this is a felony (anything over 300.00 is a felony) he just is 17 but here in ga i found out that at his age he is tried as an adult. His father and I are no longer married however we are working on getting him out. Are son has never been in trouble, never in jail, and this is his first offense. What if anything can we do to help him until he goes back to court... he has only been in jail 1 day is this time served, can he get some kind of probation, is really going to jail for 1-10 years..can you please help me with some answers.
