Ending Domestic Violence
Monday, December 1, 2008

Judge Pirro hears a case with a young woman who stays with her boyfriend even after he beats her on many occasions. After the second time he is arrested for domestic violence against her, she even bails him of jail! She has come to Judge Pirro in an attempt to get back the bail money and for pain and suffering. The judge counsels her that beatings typically only increase in intensity, severity and frequency as time goes on and that the next beating is worse than the last. Judge Pirro tells her that she needs stand up for herself by using the information she gives her:
- In the vast majority of states if the police are called to a domestic violence incident they are obligated to take a report and you are entitled to a copy of that report.
- If you are in an abusive relationship there are people and organizations that can help you. Call the National Domestic Violence Hotline 1-800-799 SAFE.

I just watched the 10-29-2009 show on domestic violence. I want to just say that there needs to be more Judge Pirro's in this world!!!! What a wonderful woman and humanitarian! She is the best!
I hope all the abused woman and men that watch her show will learn from what she has to say and put a stop to this cycle of violence. She is a true role model for all people. I am a true fan!
I hope her show will be on air for a long time. Everyone can learn something from this bright and beautiful and well educated woman!
I was just watching your show. There are two ladies on who are former "members" of Narcotics Anonymous and who were not successful in their programs. As they are telling their stories, they used the term "twelve step recovery program". As an active, and successful, member of this fellowship, I knew by their nomenclature that theey had been members. Please know that in actually putting the name of the fellowship up as part of thir personal description, you could be killing addict who are seeking help and see these two women acting a fool and relate it to our Fellowship and program. There are MILLIONS of addicts, ALL OVER THE WORLD who work this program and whose lives have been saved by it. No one individual represents the program and you are hurting addicts seeking help by doing what you did. Please in the future refrain from doing so.
Respectfully,

My daughter was one of the lucky ones. She has gotten out of an abusive marriage. It started out as verbal (cruel, demeaning, comments meant to lower self esteem and to be made to feel like you are never good enough) This lasted a couple of years, then the physical abuse began. After the first actual Strike, my daughter was smart enough to realize what was going on and called us at the time of the abuse---I told her to call 911 and we were on the way to get her and my grandaughter. The longest 3 hours of my life... he was arrested and taken to jail. My daughter pressed charges, and had an order of protection taken out on him. Unfortunately, because of the courts, (Illinois) he was allowed to have the 3 counts of domestic violence and 1 count of interference of a 911 call be lowered to 4 counts of a lesser disturbance charge ( removing the DOMESTIC VIOLENCE from the wording) What a slap in the face this was. I think this is part of the reason alot of women don't bother pressing charges--But lucky for my daughter--she stood firm and never went back to him. He continues to try to manipulate her, but to no avail. We fully expect him to eventually stop paying child support and probably fade from my grandaughter's life. I just hope he doesn't try to abuse my grandaughter as she grows up. He has her every other weekend per the courts. We tried to get him to have the visits court supervised, but were refused. Any advice on what to watch for in my grandaughter, to make sure she is not being abused---especially emotionally---you can't see the evidence? Thanks
I watched your show today how that man cut up everything she owned. I was abused also from a marriage, that I left with my kids 28 yrs ago. My ex started with me but when he started on our oldest I moved very far away. Thanks to the help of my parents. Thank you for giving that woman and kids their lives back. Thank you for what you did
It is very hard to see a women keep up her relatoinship after being beat.it could be that a women feels it was her fault.Who ever was wrong does not justify violonce whether from the man or from the lady.I worked very hard for you to be elected Attorney General . It is good to see you continue your great work.
I have been married to this guy for 10 years. We are now divorced, but live together, as boyfriend and girlfriend. This week-end we got into a major fight. And needless to say i got the worst end of it. I called the police. But we were at his mothers home. She did nothing to help me. She knows the whole police force in this little county. So i had no chance to exsplaine much of anything. Can u give me advise?
I wish that I could converse with the young lady being abused. I'm a 37 yr. old, disabled, product of abuse. I, like the young lady on the show, was abused at a young age. I thought then that it was love to only find out after being abused and maturing that it wasn't. To the young lady on the show, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DON'T GO BACK! You're a Beautiful young woman that deserves so much better! You're a Queen of Royalty and should be treated as such! If only I would have known then what I know now, it never would have happened. I had to have surgery on my neck in 2006 because my disc ruptured because of the abuse which was 20 years later. I'm now preparing to have another surgery on my neck and back as well all because of the abuse.
As a supporter of yours when you were judge and DA, you are the same person on this show as you were in those positions -- tough but fair. I hope that women who are in an abusive relationship watch this show and see for themselves that they needs to just get out.
Why is it that a partner, generally the woman, accepts the abuse and continues on in the relationship? Why do they feel "he will change?" He will not change!!! Once an abuser, always an abuser. Get Out Girl!
