Stop Excusing and Start Blaming!

The recent shootings at Fort Hood, Texas, the bodies unearthed at Anthony Sowell's home in Cleveland, Ohio, and the kidnapping and rape of Jaycee Lee Dugard by Phillip Garrido in California, beg the question: Could these crimes have been prevented?

While on the surface, these crimes may not have much in common, they all have paper trails that tell me they never should have happened.

For me, the Phillip Garrido and Anthony Sowell cases make compelling arguments for civil confinement - that is the hospitalization of violent sex offenders in secure facilities to get them "help" and prevent them from preying on additional innocent victims. As registered sex offenders, both Garrido and Sowell were required to report their addresses. Garrido in particular was subject to regular unannounced visits by parole officers. No search warrant required.

An investigation into whether the system failed in the Garrido case came back with a resounding yes. The Inspector General of California found that there were numerous opportunities to find the child victim and that there were at least 11 parole violations that could have put this violent sexual predator back behind bars. That was a no-brainer.

Garrido lived openly with young children, parole officers had an obligation to check his living arrangements and neighbors called the inept police and told them he was a sex offender living with children. I said months ago that the parole officer and the cop who got the call (and then claimed he didn't know Garrido was a sex offender) should be fired.

Anthony Sowell, yet another criminal "registered sex offender", was free to roam and prey on his next victims. Although 10 bodies and one skull have so far been found in his house and on his property, he is presumed innocent unless and until found guilty.

My question: Why was this violent sex offender who bound, gagged and raped his pregnant victim free to access others? Was he not violent enough to civilly confine in a secure mental health facility to prevent him from reoffending? What genius decided he was at little risk to reoffend? Why did the cops and those who "monitor" sex offenders not investigate complaints from neighbors who called police to say a naked woman fell out of his second floor window? What about the complaints of neighbors who complained of the stench? What amateur cop doesn't know the difference between the smell of a sausage factory and rotting human flesh emanating from one specific location? Could it be that the Cleveland police paid little attention to low income, high-risk victims from high crime areas? Why did the police laugh off a daughter's complaint that her mom was missing?

And then there is the alleged Fort Hood killer Major Nidal Malik Hasan. This guy is a shrink who is employed by our government to counsel military personnel in crisis situations?

This is a man who allegedly wrote on a website that suicide bombers should be revered. A man who was trying to get out of deployment and who was transferred from Walter Reed Army Base with poor performance grades!

The details are as of yet sketchy, but six months ago, according to media reports, the FBI had an eye on Hasan because of Internet postings attributed to him. One blog entry equates suicide bombers with a soldier throwing himself on a grenade to save the lives of his comrades. I don't much care that he might have been "stressed" and could care less that he gave his frozen broccoli to his neighbor.

In a "civilized" society we need to protect the victims and weed out those who have shown they disregard the sanctity of children and innocent lives. It is also time for us to demand accountability from those in government whether they be police officers, parole officers or the military personnel.

No one is ENTITLED to his or her job. Once they prove they are incompetent or incapable of doing their job and someone suffers grave consequences, like Jaycee Lee Dugard, or the 10 or so women who were allegedly strangled and murdered at Anthony Sowell's home, or the 13 or so who've lost their lives at Fort Hood, those who were in a position to detect or monitor these criminals need to be fired. No desk job, no suspension-FIRED!!

It is time to stop excusing criminals who choose to victimize innocents. They are not insane. And if they are, then get them away from the rest of us. And I don't want to hear about Hasan's stress. I don't want to hear about his religious beliefs either. It is time to stop being politically correct and start being morally right.

I strongly disagree with your ruling involving liability to parked car that got hit on flatbush ave.(aired 5/28/10) 1) the other driver driver admitted to causing damage to the parked car.2)it is then his responsibility to find the "alleged taxi driver" to sue him for damage. 3) he testified the taxi was ahead of him to the right and saw the hazzard(parked cars) and knew the taxi had to move into his lane. Instead of SLOWING down he chose to create a further hazzard (did he expect taxi to run into the parked cars?)4) He stated he travels that area regularly and had prior knowledge of the hazzardous condition, thus could have avoided it.5) can't be a winess because he was a party to the action he can only give his self serving testimony.

Love your show and your approach to the people that come before you. Always looked forward to your comments on "On The Record" at Fox News.

Dear Judge Pierro. I watch your show almost everyday. I would watch it every day, but I am responsible in picking my parents up for Dr. appt's., and any errands they need to run. However, I agree 100% that our law enforcement needs to be accountable for the gross errors they make. Why didn't they go into Garrido's back yard and check it thorouly?? Gosh, if they had just done that years ago, Jaycee would not have gone through 18 years of suffering at the hands of these people. And, you are absolutely correct in that the officer's should be fired.

Anyway, I love you show because you are fair and just and you are strick in how you keep order in your court room along w/ truly caring about people. You are great!:} And, yes I too would love for you to run for president. Oh, and thank you for all you have done for people who sincerely need you, and the support groups you sarted. I just think you are awesome and I hope you remain on television for a long time! Happy Holiday's, and may God Bless You and your family.
Jean

I think it's a crying shame that all the tragdey could have been avioded if people would have gotten off there butt's. I agree with Judge Pirro that they need to the job they are paid to do. I survived sexual abuse as a child. If you can stop a child or women from beening raped or hurt then get up and do it.Alot of people get stressed but that doe not gave anybody the right to grab a gun and start killing people for the fun of it. My question is when will people in postion of power start doing the right thing? They know about the people they are turing loose they need to stop. Start doing your job's. Judge Pirro I thank you foe all you have done in the way of helping people. THANK YOU

The Antioch CA case just made me sick. They could've have easily saved that girl had they lifted a finger. Remember, he was a class 3 sex offender--the worst catagory.

Incompetance by police is inexcusable. However, it's actually not the worst offence some in law enforcement inflict upon the communities they are PAID to protect and serve. A shocking number of cops end up in jail themselves. How many sex offenders are in law enforcement? Tons, there are pages and pages of horror stories at POLICECRIMES.COM. Recently the author of INJUSTICEEVERYWHERE.COM wrote about sex offenders with a badge in "The type of police Abuse No One Talks About". It's not surprising they can't stop a criminal when there are criminals in their own ranks!

Judge Pirro's article basically brought up the age old question; Who's watching the watchers? And what are the consequences for them when they break the law or prove themselves to be grossly incompetant?

As someone who survived years of sexual, emotional and physica abuse I find Judge Pirro a welcome breath of fresh air. She wants the guilty to be punished, the innocent to know true justice, and the country to return to a morality that no longer seems to exist, This country, more and more, manifests the effects of liberal thinking and actions, disrespect for God's laws, disrespect for the Constitution, the American Flag, and each other. It is a mockery to the justice system to have those in any field of law enforcement, or in the military, keep their respective positions if they are not spot on with keeping the laws that they took an oath to uphold. Where did all of the other 'Judge Pirro's' disappear to?
I would love to see her run on the Republican or Independent ticket for President..I would RUN to vote her in.
She has solid moral courage and convictions, great values, compassion, understanding and a willingness to stand her ground even against 'popular opiniions of the day'.
God bless you Judge Pirro. I admire your spirit, your sense of fair play, your work to help others,
your honor to your commitments, and your drive to make this world a better place for everyone.
May God bless you, guide you and keep you safe for all time to come.

I strongly agree with you Judge Pirro. Just because a person has a title (police, probation officer etc.)does not give them the right to ignore their jobs. I know that it is hard to stay on top of everything. But if I took a job where someone's life was in my hands I would do my very best. If someone was injuryed or killed because I didn't have time to do my job or I didn't feel that checking on the situation was important I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. WAKE UP!!!! It is time for everyone to try and protect human life. We are not animals and should not act as such. The children need protected. The people that need help, GET IT. If you feel that someone is endangering someone get involved and don't stop till someone listens.I know a lot of people just want to cause trouble, but if there are more than one complaint check it out throughly. It is time for people to grow up. Judge Pirro thank you for all that you have done. Keep up the good work. May God Bless you Sincerly Debbie

JUDGE JEANINE PIRRO FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!

While I agree with the need to hold people accountable for their actions we also need to be sure the people who are responsible to do certain jobs in our country are provided with the tools to do those jobs. How many parolees was the officer involved in the Garrido case responsible for? To often in this society we get angry at the wrong people. As to the whole sex offender thing since many people (so called experts)say these people cannot be cured then perhaps we need to strengthen the laws governing sentencing of these offenders. As to Mr. Hasan I think we should find out all the facts before we make a judgment. It seems to me that we are rushing to label this man a terrorist when he may in fact just be a MENTAL case.
