No Miranda Rights For Military Combatants
The White House attempt to gain the cooperation of suspect Umar Abdul Mutallab by meeting with his family in Nigeria is nothing more than an attempt to cover up their disastrous mishandling and Mirandizing of Abdul Mutallab, an alleged terrorist. Had the administration properly handled the case and treated Abdul Mutallab as the enemy combatant that he is, there would be no need for agents to fly to Nigeria and beg his family to get him to give us information. We were the ones who told him he could remain silent in the first place!
Since actionable intelligence should have been our goal, Abdul Mutallab should not have been given his right to remain silent and his right to an attorney. As a result of our gracious handling of the man who wanted to blow up a plane of passengers on the way to Detroit, we have shut down our ability to interrogate him thoroughly and to find out who his cohorts are, and where they operate. Anyone in law enforcement understands that there is no way to even establish a rapport, let alone get information, in 50 minutes. The Government's response to criticism was that they got what they needed. But this is not about one criminal charge being proven beyond a reasonable doubt. It's about garnering intelligence in a war on terror where a network of individuals hate this country so much that they would blow themselves up just to kill us. We need to know who they are, and where they are.
Ironically, administration officials say within the next few months another terrorist attempt is "certain". And yet we scoot an alleged bomber through interrogation with more speed than investigators interviewing a robbery suspect. This naive approach to those who want to destroy us is further proof that we need to get these combatants out of our civilian justice system and into a military tribunal.
As a result of the United States Supreme Court's decision in Hamdan v. Rumsfeld, the Bush administration pushed for a law called the Military Commissions Act of 2006. This law established procedures governing the use of military commissions to try unlawful enemy combatants, such as those who were sent to Guantanamo Bay. These unlawful enemy combatants can be detained until the cessation of hostilities.
The recent granting of retroactive constitutional rights to these individuals, and the attempt to offer them the hospitality of being tried in courts and in our cities, is a Pollyanna approach to the war on terror. What's next - a plea bargain?

nice post. thanks.
What a great resource!
I'm amazed at the lack of attention that's given to the means by which he got on the flight to begin with. According to the other passengers, one of which is a lawyer, he observed a sharp dressed man accompany him to the ticket counter and got him on the plane without any identification/passport. This has been confirmed by the FBI, and has been an issue that for some reason has caused the authorities to change their story several times. They attempted to mislead the public and instead of answering the questions, chose to attack the eyewitnesses creditability. When that didn't work and the public began to wake up and realize this was another false flag operation, they quickly swept it under the rug and issue no comment as to legitimate evidence that points in their direction as an accomplices.
As the people of this country are slowly opening their eyes to the fact that our government is being run by corporation that hold profit above all else including the welfare of the people, we see them attempt to attack those who point out the inconsistencies of their actions. This in turn is met with the usual conspiracy theorist labeling that is now losing its effect. After all, the government attempted to do the same thing to a small group of individuals we now call our forefathers. If it wasn't for their courage to stand up to the officials and continue to hold the governments feet to the fire, we would not be the nation we are today.
"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it's natural manure." Thomas Jefferson
One day when there is no one left that believes their lies they will have to answer the questions and be held responsible for their actions.
Good dispatch and this post helped me alot in my college assignement. Say thank you you on your information.
The public outrage for giving Umar Abdul Mutallab miranda rights is understandable. This thug almost blew up a plnae with 300+ passengers and crew. Clearly, the Obama administration is too soft in their handling and views of all enemy combatants. What did we find out? That another enemy attack is inevitable. Really?? No kidding...but where, when, and how?? Eric Holder should resign immediately and Mutallab should be sent to Guantanamo Bay immediately!!
You are absolutely correct in your premise that Miranda Rights should not be given to Military Combatants.
It is time the government takes responsibilty to correct their inept handling in this regard.
